Earlier this month, Feyona & Steven were married at the Ottawa Marriott in downtown Ottawa. The day was full of happy family, great friends, and incredible memories. Feyona & Steven tied the knot in the Cartier Room, literally surrounded by their best friends and the reception was held in the Victoria Ballroom, with a quick trip in between to the Supreme Court of Canada for some photos. It was a fun day and I was so happy to play a part in it! Here are some photos from their day.
A week and a half ago I spent an evening with this charming and fun couple downtown as we snapped a few engagement photos. Here are a few from their session.

Yesterday was an exciting day as Feyona & Steven tied the knot at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel. It turned out to be a beautiful day despite the original forecast of rain. Surrounded by so many friends and family, this couple started their new life together with an epic party! I was so grateful to have been their to celebrate with them! Here are a few preview shots from their big day!
In a place like Ottawa where rain is almost always somewhere in the forecast, we get asked regularly about options for photo locations in the case of rain. Not every wedding is at a venue with perfect indoor options for photos and we understand that rain is something couples are always anxious about. Even if there is only a small chance of it on your wedding day, you want to know your options.
NATIONAL ARTS CENTRE (NAC)
Despite what I said above about most places not being free, this one is an exception! The NAC allows any of its public spaces to be used for photos free of charge. It is a beautiful space, more recently made even more beautiful with some new additions and upgrades.
It boasts beautiful architecture and elegance throughout its indoor space. It is a wonderful indoor option in the case of rain, or even if it is dry outside! As a bonus, if the rain does clear up and you want to make your way outside, you are in walking distance of many other great urban photo location options (Confederation Tunnel, Chateau Laurier, the Locks, & Parliament)!
MUSEUM OF NATURE
MUSEUM OF NATURE
The Canadian Museum of Nature is another great option for indoor wedding photos in the situation of rain. It includes incredible natural light and intricate architecture (both modern and historical) The Museum does require a reservation to limit the number of weddings using the space at a time. They also charge $100 for the use of the space during museum hours. You can find more information regarding this here.
CANADIAN WAR MUSEUM
The Canadian War Museum's lobby can be used for wedding photos during museum hours for a fee of $50. Its unique interior (and exterior!) architecture makes this a nice option for wedding photos in the case of rain.
With such an interesting exterior as well, you may find yourself wanting to step outside with an umbrella or use it once the rain clears up.
NATIONAL ART GALLERY
The National Art Gallery of Canada is a beautiful building with incredible architecture, high arching ceilings and plenty of lovely, natural light. They will rent time to couples wanting to use the space for their wedding photos. It is a more expensive option then some ($350), but also a nice option for indoor wedding photos in Ottawa.
Another nice aspect of the National Art Gallery is the close vicinity it has to outdoor options in the situation that the weather clears (Major's Hill Park, The locks, outside Chateau Laurier, Parliament, & Confederation Tunnel).
Speaking of Confederation Tunnel, that is another great option for getting cover from the rain, even if you don't opt to go indoors. Directly across from and under the Fairmont Chateau Laurier in downtown Ottawa, confederation tunnel has an epic staircase and an interesting, arching opening to the street level above. Although not a particularly large area, there are several options for interesting photos under its cover as well as nearby if the rain lets up.
ROCKCLIFFE PARK PAVILION
If an indoor location is not what you are looking for and you would prefer to stay outside as much as possible but still want something covering you from the rain, then the Rockcliffe Park Pavilion is a fantastic option. It boasts a nice view of the river and strong stone pillars. Unfortunately, short of renting it for $400, it can not be reserved, but it can be used on a first come first served basis.
Another similar option to this would be the gazebo at Walter Baker Park in Kanata.
I should mention that each of these place's policies and fees could change at any time so, although I will attempt to ensure that all the information here is correct, I encourage you to do your own research and confirmation before relying on this post's accuracy.
Another fantastic option would be to brave the storm, come rain or not. I bring several large black umbrellas to every wedding as an option for couples to use in the case of rain. They can make interesting props and rain itself can make for dramatic photos. Sometimes it's just worth it!
Paola & Ricardo were married on a windy day in April. Freezing rain and snow were in the forecast, but nothing would stop these two from getting married outside in among the trees at the Arboretum. Ricardo's mother and sister even came all the way from Mexico for the special event! Keith from Exceptional Ceremonies performed the official ceremony and then the three of us hiked through the park for some photos of the two of them. It was wonderful to celebrate with these two in such an intimate way!
Every year, I submit some photos to an international contest called Shoot and Share. This year there were 412,379 photos submitted to the contest (yeah, that's half of a million)!
In a contest this large I submit mostly just for fun, and enjoy seeing many other beautiful photos and don't expect to rank too high overall. However, this year, I was excited to see that I had 17 images in the top 20% including 9 in the top 10% and 5 finalists!
Below I have shared the 5 finalist, all of which are double exposures. To be honest, most of the photos I submitted to the contest were double exposures.
Hiking through a forest in the snow is a great place for engagement photos! I am looking forward to this awesome couple's wedding later this year! Here's to beautiful people, snow, and golden hour!
Whenever a couple invites me into their life to document as intimate an event as their wedding I am honoured. When said event is in their home with only a handful of friends and family present I feel even more honoured to be trusted to be there. This was the case with Michelle and Kurt and their beautifully private wedding inside their home in Ottawa a couple of weeks ago. Their incredibly lovely home, with it's roof-top terrace was the perfect place for their intimate wedding. Here are a few photos from their day.
2017 was an amazing year, filled with incredible couples, fun events, and timeless memories. There were so many times that I was so grateful to do this incredible job surrounded by so many amazing people. I am so thankful to everyone this past year who trusted me to document milestones in their life!
Lindsay & Owen braved the winter for some engagement photos at Mer Bleue last month. It was a beautiful day and a fun way to spend it, hiking through the wilderness and bog trail. They even got to feed some chickadees at the end of their hike. Here are some photos from their engagement session.
Marilyne and Maël were married with at their home in an intimate ceremony a couple of weeks ago in Ottawa. Before their "elopement" ceremony we headed downtown for some photos of the happy couple. I had a wonderful time with this fun couple the morning of their wedding day, hiking around Ottawa and marching through the snow.
For those willing to brave the cold, like this couple, winter can be an amazing time of year to tie the knot (or for photos of any kind in general)!
Here are a few from their wedding photo shoot.

With their fourth child on the way, Rob and Becky decided it was time for a proper maternity session. So, along with their adorable and fun family, they made their way to Carleton Place to this fantastic mill for some photos. Here are a few photos from their session.

A few weeks ago Falana & Rajeeth were married in a private, intimate ceremony with their closest friends and family. They had some photos taken in Major's Hill Park followed by a dinner at Fairouz Restaurant on Somerset. I had an enjoyable evening with them, walking around the park, enjoying the sunset, and capturing some timeless memories for them. Here are a few photos from their wedding day.

Last month two amazing people finally tied the knot on a beautiful, snowy, winter day. There was so much joy at this wedding. From the excitement of seeing each other to the excitement of how much snow was falling, there was no masking the happiness of this couple. It was truly an honour to celebrate with them on this momentous occasion! After a lovely prep time at the auspicious Pygmalion Spa on Somerset, Lysa made her way to GreyHawk Golf Club where she and Alex were married surrounded by their closest friends and family. I am excited to share these beautiful photos from their even more beautiful day! Congratulations to the king and queen! #queenandkingham #royalwedding

On Saturday I got to celebrate with this amazing couple as they tied the knot. Their wedding was beautiful and full of joy and excitement. Lysa's excitement as she came down the aisle was unmatched except by Alex watching as she approached.
The day started at the beautiful Pygmalion Spa on Somerset and ended at the grand GreyHawk Golf Club. The already lovely day was perfected with the snow.
I had so much fun capturing these moments on such an exciting day! Here are a few preview photos from their day!
Reviews are one of the best ways for couples to find and trust a wedding photographer. This is why we love it when our couples take the time to leave them for us after their wedding. Ottawa is full of amazing photographers so finding the one that fits best with you and your day can be a challenge. After looking at enough a photos your eyes start to glaze over and everything begins to look the same. This is why reviews can be so great. Instead of just spending all of your time comparing this photo with that one and trying to determine which one is nicer, spend some time learning about the person behind the lens that you will be spending so much time with on your wedding day.
It is wise to consider your photographer as almost part of your wedding party. You want to know that you will enjoy spending time with them on the most exciting day of your life. Do they make you feel comfortable? Do they act professionally, but also are they fun to have around? You can learn these things by meeting them, which I strongly recommend, but you can also learn them by reading about other people's experiences.
Here are a few of the reviews that many of our amazing couples have left for us online.
We also recently had an amazing couple who offered to do a video review for us. You can check that out here.
Obviously, the photos are important when choosing a photographer. Make sure that you love the work of the person you trust to document your day, but make sure that you also like the person you will be hanging out with on your wedding day.
The Royal Ottawa Golf Course is a majestic setting for a wedding and was the perfect one for Janie & Ryan's big day last month. Joey Rudd Photography had the privilege of being the photographer for the day. With touches of fall still on the trees and in their details it was the perfect fall wedding. The day consisted of some preparation and ping pong followed by the dearest first look out on the golf course. The ceremony was in one of the lovely rooms inside of the Royal Ottawa Golf Course and the reception to follow was truly a celebration of this fun couple's love for not only each other, but also for their friends and family there to celebrate with them. The party was a blast afterwards with lots of dancing and exhausted flowergirls, Jan from CaptivSounds kept the dancing going with his awesome DJing. Here are a few photos from their wedding day.
1000 Islands Village is a gorgeous new 27 acre resort campus on the banks of the St Lawrence River in Brockville that has everything you'd imagine in a village.. It is a beautiful place with a rich history that would make the perfect venue for your wedding or private event. On top of being an excellent choice for a wedding, the Village also provides support to the community by offering sports and recreation facilities, as well as an indoor farmer’s market to artisans and producers who want to showcase their local crafts and products. It shares its space with RIver West Co. a lifestyle boutique for mind, body & home as well as Café Selah. Whether you are hosting and event, celebrating a wedding, or just want somewhere to hang out, 1000 Islands Village is the place for you.
Last month, I had the privilege of visiting the village for the first time and photographing their open house. I had so much fun seeing the place and meeting some of the staff as well as capturing these photos for them. I am excited about this lovely place and all of its potential and I can't wait to photograph a wedding there soon!
1000 Islands Village is located Brockville and you can check them out here.

The Mill of Kintail in Almonte is a wonderful place for engagement photos. Karine & Nick wanted to have some fall colours in their engagement photos so we went on a hike at the mill. We had a fun evening hiking and capturing these photos of this sweet couple. I am looking forward to their wedding next May!
